Brady will have to sit in it for an hour with no heart rate drops. Hopefully, he will handle it just fine:) Dave and I took a couple of Steve's famous cakes in for the NICU staff today. He may be going home as early as next week. The physical therapist evaluated him at his 11 a.m. feeding and she said he was ready to go to 'ad lib feedings' or feeding on demand. He has to show them that he can handle his feedings without having heart rate drops and continue to gain weight before he will be sent home. He did ok today with it. He did have 2 heart rate drops while feeding. Sometimes he gets too anxious when taking his bottle and he chokes...all normal for preemies. He will get it:)
Tonight, after his 6 o'clock feeding, he just laid up on my chest with wide eyes looking at me for about 10 minutes...so sweet and content. He is definitely a cuddler. I can't wait to be able to cuddle him all day:)Family and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-87047824850539055392009-08-16T22:17:00.002-04:002009-08-16T22:36:04.049-04:0036 Weeks (Gestational Age)<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii2g57kLpxYP8eR1x3n6Q-3JdlyL_KeMyJ_6J7G_VQKzD8uCruLBdF73FwnOOphAgIEYr2oFrDb5V89FCErdTaA7gwJcD5_Ya0YVWjMuaIktO9RuLmnXPgiCPErpwBtFMeC94POkYXInI/s320/P1000618.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370751788147781266" />
Brady is 36 weeks and weighs 4 lbs. 8 oz. He weighed in at 4 lbs. 6 oz. this afternoon. I have to say that although it is hard to update this some nights because we are so exhausted, Dave and I are incredibly thankful we still have a reason to update it. Brady has beaten the odds he was given the day he was born. He continues to do very well. He just needs to stay awake long enough to finish his feedings...lol! The nurse Brady had today thinks he has another 2 weeks in the NICU. I'm excited, but very very nervous.
We are so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends. Thank you for your continued prayers, messages, gifts, help...etc.
Karissa & DaveFamily and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-69732307834107514792009-08-12T23:46:00.002-04:002009-08-13T22:36:16.802-04:00Family and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-55582768629542113412009-08-12T23:46:00.001-04:002009-08-12T23:48:26.473-04:00<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu8o0eEFEcYgctxAo0NuwGsDrdD2BeNZ8X7Bc5ttqGB45CBCt6dSIpNZmyT_Hs6xM_Aq8c6w5EvLlQLBSz47suaR16DXk6cDs_i5ObPmcViS57uAMFsWqFjM8woukO6HUpJ443K-0zluM/s320/P1000615.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369290214554675202" />Family and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-65532128686487510242009-08-10T23:06:00.008-04:002009-08-10T23:56:13.206-04:00Bottle Feeding<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1PAF_A77Di2pVsXHA0eJNVeL9EM0YzSP_xxvaXmh5yHSPddhFLL14eOA9Awhao-Re8xFFXJZnVEzjgfsefFl7qq9m5gf0Ncl_C7DHEwQSoYUf2yD0YmxDiqrTln4Dfuznm-g-oy8y-MQ/s320/P1000607.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368539182552205218" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKOe2p9g5xpZU16pSgHl6IHho_BuP-JsbFRZ8VPvRQB9X8eEmx4ba8hYMWxgg1jT4N4o6RND1t8lRYpQU_fFmHeY5v_upcszoDfW1tdnD010Im3aYPUySFwJRS3V5gOFJUF5bDTxFm8Y0/s320/P1000604.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368538045863345362" />

Brady had a good day. The physical therapist came in for his 11am feeding to try the bottle again. She was very pleased with how well he did. He was able to pace himself and drink from the bottle without getting too much at once. He got sleepy after drinking 24 of the 33 ml. The nurse just put the rest through the gavage tube. Dave was able to feed Brady for his 5pm feeding after giving him a bath. The photos make Brady's hair look reddish, but it is really brown with some blonde.Family and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-79396097992908616952009-08-09T20:59:00.002-04:002009-08-09T21:08:22.467-04:0035 Weeks (Gestational Age)<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge0svNgldpFHQtubFdbButwnuO-Pvrmv9yzShxr7YC38NRgx6VJ1UDczsX13VQZwqx5HZ9L1zrQEhjmDJbhRrT8ZirNeyunBt59e8IUwq-5392gNBNuELqLXASfx4kbngUSBhJPEFMQ2E/s320/P1000601.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368134792854754194" />

Brady is 35 weeks. He had a pretty exciting day too. He reached the 4 pound mark on the scale and he was moved from the isolette to a crib:) The funny thing about all this is that Brady slept through it all. He was a sleepy boy:) He is also off the oxygen cannula...again...waiting to see how he does over the next few days. His eye exam last week was normal (I think I forgot to post this info.)and he will have another eye exam in 2 weeks. Brady's face is filling out and he is looking more and more like David when he was a newborn. He is also noticing his hands when he has them anywhere in front of his face. Dave and I had to laugh watching Brady looking at his hands. We also had a fun time changing his clothes this evening...having to unhook all those wires to get his little gown on him. It is so cute:) Thanks to Michelle, Dave, Misty & Shelby Bryan for the adorable preemie clothes they sent. Brady is wearing one of the gowns in the photo above:)
Brady weighed 3 lbs. 14 oz. which is exactly 2 lbs. more than he weighed at birth. He still has the oxygen cannula on, but it is not administering oxygen to him...just a low air flow that seems to be all he needs to maintain his breathing. Today, the physical therapist evaluated him with a bottle feeding. She said he is doing much better with his breathing while trying to work the bottle, but still not quite ready. She is going to try again on Friday. Brady had an eye exam today as well. We will get those results tomorrow.
Many thanks to all for your continued prayers.
KarissaFamily and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-79925492748604148212009-08-02T23:01:00.004-04:002009-08-02T23:23:13.254-04:0034 Weeks (Gestational Age)<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBPk1wa7PzZvZ3H_xmnqs5bPiShbeoqhOjc4c-DiddOs1e0R_Oad_Yz-L8AGCoEVqdwv0hN-uWLUH3dPicZbNETksf6rhY2-76sMYYSXP3_1c84wRxh34n1yQIkZDSLPDLPii-hSKj_6M/s320/P1000576.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5365570796533629330" />

Brady Ashton is 34 weeks today and so cute in his little dinosaur sleeper. It is so weird to think that he shouldn't even be here yet...he is such an amazing little boy. He weighed 3 lbs. 13.2 oz. this afternoon.
The docs did have to put him back on oxygen last Thursday. He was having some issues with saturation, etc. This morning, the doctor took him off the oxygen again because Brady has been doing really well the past couple days. Brady also had to have his 2 month vaccinations today. He had 4 shots total over 24 hours...my poor tiny baby:( He is doing well with them so far. I was able to go see him after seeing my doctor this morning since I had gone 24 hours without a fever. Brady was sound asleep. I just sat there and watched him sleep...so sweet:) He is really starting to look like David when he was a baby.
Dave and I went back to the hospital this afternoon to give Brady his bath and visit with him. He was being weighed when we arrived and he is now 3 lbs. 10.4 oz. He can wear clothes now...yeah! Go Brady! I am taking his little tiny outfits in tomorrow. Although you won't be able to appreciate exactly how small the clothes are, I will take some pics of him in his new threads so everyone can see.

Mrs. Joan, thank you for bringing my milk to the hospital:) Love, Brady XOXO

Love to all and God Bless.
KarissaFamily and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-26264310214823239412009-07-29T23:09:00.002-04:002009-07-29T23:20:20.096-04:00Baby Brady is doing well. His movements are becoming more controlled and he makes smiley faces a lot when he is looking at me. I love that so much:) He weighed in at 3 lbs. 7 oz. The nurses moved him to another room today. Apparently, a lot of babies went home today so they are moving everyone around. It is going to be weird going to another room after being in the same one for 9 weeks.
I started feeling bad again today...11 days off meds, now, sick AGAIN! I started running a low grade fever this afternoon so I called the doctor. She put me on another antibiotic and wants to see me tomorrow to refer me to a specialist. I am really getting scared and I can't stand the fact that I won't be able to hold Brady until the fever is gone. We were having such a great time together this week. He is nursing pretty well for his age and we cuddled a lot. I will miss that desparately.
Thank you all for your continued prayers, love, and support.
KarissaFamily and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-44813438581243939972009-07-27T23:29:00.004-04:002009-07-28T09:44:17.467-04:00Lots of Mommy Time:)Brady had a good day. He has been in the NICU for 60 days. The nurse said she thinks he will probably be there for at least another 5 to 6 weeks. There are many requirements for him before he can come home.

Today, Brady weighed 3 lbs. 5.5 oz. Only 4.5 more ounces and he can wear clothing. He is still off the oxygen cannula and doing well so far.

Dave and the kids are at the beach so I got to spend a lot more time at the hospital the past two days. Brady is getting lots of 'Mommy Time' and we are both loving it! I got to give him his bath this evening. I was scared, but once I got going I was okay. He was a good boy:) He only cried during the hair washing...again...lol! I got him all cleaned up and wrapped in the blanket and I was just about to put him down to put on a diaper and guess what...he went in the blanket! I cleaned him up again and we cuddled. It was so sweet.

We are so thankful to God for each day:)
KarissaFamily and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-12067783242966617462009-07-26T21:03:00.003-04:002009-07-26T21:17:24.410-04:0033 Weeks (Gestational Age)<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobfPgOJg2nn1luay3y6-jUJpJ9YAQBXIwvn-_1K6McgUHWalgIFhDe8qFbMtJp2e2aUX4V12lRJlf4aVfLc7v2uEOKmfkhETV_W-uflAdNbwyZBiKnfG5c3zyh1cVxcvwFy2cjnkmKv4/s320/P1000563.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362939824998393778" />

Brady is 33 weeks today. Brady weighed in at 3 lbs. 4.5 oz. today.Family and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-90547477624232309012009-07-24T23:59:00.004-04:002009-07-25T00:22:02.735-04:008 Weeks Old<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLFqgNWBqZZfMHxjzbjtzDS2mlLwdpytOuCKmWMa1lVqdpHNn62HkFAijWRLD72r_G5LMqQXWc-PukIFfTq56bfNiOk1gLCyuOkzkdGOrcLYFwfulTHT0Pk0xGcPU5yBep61pPOVTUMgM/s320/P1000558.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362247527533309474" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimU2Jz30XdtfBER66mYAzaciASWgC1coYhqGueCWTcF12N1WjYBwnzf93tak61dCNoQphbtCV4YQOsc3Fm4nCn98CmepRpCE8f7HnUzZQZoFEcWJ60ERM3-_nMsHFbW9CCG__dMEEZ0Rc/s320/P1000561.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362246747942907378" />

Brady is 8 weeks old today. He is doing well. This morning the doctor told me they were able to reduce his oxygen back down to 1/4 liter. He did fine with it all day. We worked on nursing again. He is so funny because he is very anxious to get started and after about 5 minutes he is worn out. He tries to fight falling asleep, but he just can't seem to keep those eyes open any longer. LOL!
This evening, Dave and I were able to give him a bath. He really seemed to like the bath, but not the hair washing...he cried through that part. He gained a little weight back today...3 lbs. 2.7 oz. and Dave measured him to see if he grew any lengthwise...he was 15 inches so he did grow an inch since he was born:)
Love to all and many thanks for your continued prayers.
KarissaFamily and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-83733394033183294132009-07-23T22:41:00.002-04:002009-07-23T22:53:41.589-04:00We tried nursing again this morning and this evening. Brady did a little better both times. He is still so tiny...he just needs practice and to gain more strength. The nurse also had me try giving him a bottle this evening. He wasn't too thrilled with having to suck, swallow, and breathe that quickly...it was kind of scary for me too.
Dave and I have been a bit concerned the past couple days because Brady has been losing weight. We spoke with the nurse practitioner about it. Again, she said it was normal due to the diuretic he is receiving, but I am still worried. I am going to speak with the doctor tomorrow. Brady weighed 3 lbs. 1 oz. today.
We are grateful to all of you for your continued prayers.
KarissaFamily and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-1538892914221954902009-07-22T22:47:00.003-04:002009-07-22T22:52:47.392-04:00Brady is continuing to do well. We tried nursing again today since he was awake when I got there this morning. He did ok for his first try. It will take time for him to gain strength for it...he will have to keep work out with the binky:) Brady weighed 3 lbs. 3.5 oz. today. He did lose a bit yesterday since the doctor started him back on a diuretic medication to reduce excess fluid. I got to hold him twice today...very happy about that, but he saved me some presents for this evening...I ended up changing his diaper 3 times in 15 minutes! LOL!
Thank you all for your prayers.
KarissaFamily and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2271085772573192474.post-50050126657692221052009-07-21T23:04:00.005-04:002009-07-21T23:25:44.253-04:00Bath Time:)<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjthmkiCaTFTk1gLmOxFnz0m8GYYuqQNMSB5TlIQtXjGXA3Jl_cw-OeZCGcwuJ3qtVzEvd975p610jzQj5LxHlPgr6aDYsUAiduvR4vSN1px0d-Yrad_ros-2VJ9-SY6RznGQHhx_65DJI/s320/P1000548.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361116195392297954" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxSSp4yJip-bueJdCEZdKS0lOrmxk71_HqTRVm1bBWCHdqYTDvjAYvqhL2SLCWUzVEnji1cYL6jysbk_pj6Tkcz9q7QTh5m9Pow0jJFuNzoD-QR1hTcUUIGE-bZw6MTLUz7LF-E1SNZa0/s320/P1000546.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361115877090638130" />

Well, the nurse was supposed to let us give him his bath at 5pm yesterday evening. When we arrived just before 5pm ready for Dave to give him a bath and me to take lots of pictures, the nurse had already given him a bath. I was so upset!!! I have no idea why she did it, but he will get one on Thursday so we will do it then. She did tell us he liked it. We took a photo right when we got there and the nurse was wrapping him in a blanket.
Today, I tried nursing him. The nurse thought he might be ready since he is so good at sucking the binkie. He just snoozed right through it so we ended up using the feeding tube. He was a sleepy boy all day today! He had a lot of visitors too. Dave's Aunt Pat, cousin Rich and wife Nanette came to visit.Family and Friendshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11556844394210904156noreply@blogger.com2
